The 3rd Annual Great Plains Institutional Investor Forum is an educational initiative designed through close coordination with the region’s leading institutional investors to build peer communities that merge global best practices with local expertise.

The program’s agenda will cover smart beta, pension fund management, private equity allocation trends, fund operational issues, the global equity market landscape, hedge fund allocation trends, asset recovery, securities litigation, the distressed cycle and credit market navigation, interest rates and the credit cycle, real assets and non-traditional asset classes, fiduciary responsibility and fraud protection. The forum is specially designed to bring together 100+ staff members, investment officers, board members and trustees representing Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa.

CPAs can receive CPE credits towards their continuing education obligations.


Anthony Waskiewicz, Chief Investment Officer, Mercy Health Systems

Mr. Waskiewicz has 25+ years of investment experience mostly advising and managing assets for institutional clients. Mr. Waskiewicz is a team leader and skilled investor with a proven track record generating strong risk-adjusted returns using absolute-return focused portfolio construction techniques and thoughtful, differentiated manager selection processes.

Mr. Waskiewicz has over ten years experience as a chief investment officer managing short-term and long-term capital for institutions, building investment programs, creating prudent investment solutions and establishing selection processes for products and managers within the equity, fixed income, real asset, hedge fund and private equity markets.

Mr. Waskiewicz currently serves as Chief Investment Officer for Mercy Health (St. Louis, MO) managing the AA- rated health system’s short-term, long-term and pension plan assets, totaling $2.7B in assets under management. With 33 hospitals across Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas, 40,000 employees and $4.5B+ in net revenues, Mercy is the nation’s 5th largest Catholic health system. Mr. Waskiewicz joined Mercy in February 2010 as the system’s first chief investment officer charged with creating a top-performing in-house investment program. Under his leadership, Mercy has generated strong risk-adjusted returns while receiving industry recognition as a leading healthcare investor, including Investor Intelligence Awards - Healthcare Chief Investment Officer of the Year (2014); Annual Hedge Fund Industry Awards - Healthcare System of the Year Nominee (2014) and Annual Hedge Fund Industry Awards - Rising Star Award Recipient (2012).

Mr. Waskiewicz brings a unique industry perspective to an in-house investment team. Prior to taking on his first role as CIO in 2005, Mr. Waskiewicz spent fifteen years in the asset management and advisory business, learning from and working with industry leaders at T. Rowe Price, Mercer Investment Consulting, Evergreen Investments and Morgan Stanley.

Mr. Waskiewicz is an active member of the investment community serving as a member of the CFA Institute and the St. Louis Society of Investment Analysts. He is a frequent speaker and panelist at industry conferences and roundtables.

Mr. Waskiewicz also serves as an adjunct professor in the business school at Webster University (St. Louis) and presently serves as on the Board of Coopers-Anthony Child Advocacy Center (Hot Springs, Arkansas), as well as, the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Investment Sub-Committee at Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School in St. Louis, where his two daughters, ages 17 and 15, attend.
